Whallonsburg Fire, July 31, 2020
Fire destroys Whallonsburg home on July 31, 2020

Last night my Father’s home in Whallonsburg went up in flames, a total loss, absolutely devastating. This was his retirement, he had put everything into remodeling this place for the past year, just to see it all go up in flames. Milan, his daughter and her boyfriend lost everything, leaving the house with their dogs, clothes on their backs and shoeless as they watched everything they owned decimated. Luckily everyone is safe, the most important thing!

My father had saved and scrimped to make this a home and I am so saddened for him. He is the first to always volunteer his time and skills to anyone or organization in need, and the last person who deserves this tragedy. I am grateful for this community we live in, its the reason we choose this as home, who has come together to provide the basics, but there is a long road ahead of trying to piece everything back together and rebuild. My sister also just recently relocated here this summer, from Salt Lake City, she as well lost all her belongings. She works online and lost her two computers and multiple monitors, hindering her way of making an income. Currently they are able to stay with me, but looking for a rental in the Essex area if anyone knows of something.

I want to thank this wonderful community, who came together last night to make sure everyone was safe, especially the fire fighters who worked endlessly to the early am hours to make sure the fire was out. I know times are hard for everyone currently, so any donation is greatly appreciated. [Source: GoFundMe, “Milan’s home destroyed by fire, everything lost”]
